Writers from third world countries, Elon Musk and Twitter: Monetize your written content on Twitter

I’m from India, and the Medium Partner Program isn’t yet available here. I am active on Fiverr, and I get web design clients, but I haven’t received any article writing projects.

I often write articles for clients who reach out via email. It is fortunate that they pay me more, either because of my higher fees or because of my blog and portfolio.

The only problem I have is,

I don’t get clients on a regular basis, despite the fact that I sometimes get clients who pay well.

As a writer, I feel hurt to see Indian writers and writers from south Asian countries being underpaid. There is no way they should be paid $5 for the work they do.

Recently I read this article by Devika Mailk.

She wrote,

“I can assure you that no person can formulate a well-researched, well-written piece of work for five bucks. And for those who charge low prices are only letting these employers exploit their talent and simultaneously making it difficult for the rest of us to survive and ask the worthy price for our work. — These actions only hurt the art form and writer community at large.” — Devika Malik

Elon Musk confirms that Twitter will begin monetizing written content soon!

Elon Musk and MrBeast recently discussed YouTube versus Twitter’s daily active users, monetizing aspects, and all that.

In response to a tweet from MrBeast, Elon Musk wrote:

“Let’s see what happens when Twitter offers good video with higher compensation for creators”

A Twitter user asked Elon Musk, “Will only video creators be able to monetize content?”

To which Elon Musk replied, “Written content too”.

My favorite form of content is long-form content, and I like to write a lot. It would be great if Indian writers could participate in the Medium Partner Program and it would be great if we could make money from our written content on Twitter as well.

However, I think that, just like Medium, initially, we, the writers from third-world countries will not be able to monetize our content on Twitter, due to its US-only nature.

I’m still hopeful, though.

In spite of the fact that Elon Musk is making lots of changes to Twitter nowadays, and we don’t like most of them, I believe in him. Now that I have seen this tweet from Elon Musk, I really hope he will make Twitter a better place and we writers will be able to look forward to a brighter future.

Let’s see what happens!

Thanks for reading this article. 💚
