Air India will hire more than 1,200 aviation engineers at its upcoming maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Bengaluru International Airport, The Economic Times reports.
Additionally, seven times more indirect jobs will be created for the local population, says the company’s CEO and MD Campbell Wilson. The facility will have state-of-the-art aircraft maintenance tech like universal docking systems, overhead tele platforms, and the largest vertical hangar door in India, and is slated to be completed by 2026, he adds.
Air India is also planning to launch a Basic Maintenance Training Organisation (BMTO) in Bengaluru next year, the report adds. Starting with a batch of 50, the BMTO will provide training to engineering students to become type-rated aircraft maintenance engineers for certification, Wilson says.
